That's the saying I treat as bible. And it's never let me down. It's definitely better to capture that moment, even if it's lo-fi, than miss out entirely.

Now, a bit of context.

I am a quirky introvert. For years I used an iPod Touch for all that smartphone stuff: FaceTime, Telegram, Instagram, etc. My phone was a pay as you go no-data plan. I preferred this set up because it meant that as long as I was away from wifi, I couldn't be reached except for when someone actually texted or called. This was a very rare occurrence.

I stopped on the street to record the local construction project. This project had been going on for a while now, and I was capturing all the sounds I could as I casually strolled by.

Kind of bored with it, I saw that they were about to drop a big dumpster. Trying not to look too obvious I stood on the sidewalk holding my "phone". And I hit record. Why not?

In that moment two rare things happened:
- I got an actual phone call, which triggered my custom Iasos ringtone.
- I ran in to an acquaintance on the street - something that never seems to happen to me in Berlin.

And the dumpster dropped.

These were the makings of a moment that was so cinematic, it was absolutely my favorite recording of the year.

Good thing I had my trusty iPod!
